What is a Party Whip?
Party Whips are a political party’s muscle. Political parties spend a lot of money on candidates. They don’t do it for free. Wikipedia says, “Whips are the party’s “enforcers”; they invite fellow legislators to attend voting sessions and to vote according to the official party policy.” In other words, we helped finance you and let you use our connections, time to pay the piper!
Why Should You Care?
Ever wonder why the “most honest, sincere” candidate never follows through with those promises they spoke so passionately about? It’s because they were not given permission by senior members of the Party to do so. Party Whip’s take away our representation, enforcing the wishes of the Party bosses (the Majority Leader and Minority Leader). The best interests of the constituents lose out to the best interests of the Party. That is why you should care! And that is why you can rest easy knowing that the American Party chooses their constituents over Party politics.
